Every summer around this time, I’m fondly reminded of a special Memorial Day many years ago. I’ve lived in several parts of the city of Orange, California not far from one of Allied Modular’s west coast facilities. I was enjoying a relaxing Memorial Day off sitting in my living room reading a book. It was a warm summer day and the window was open letting a slight breeze meander through the house.
It started off faintly at first and I could just barely hear the hum of the engine. The sound was way out in the distance, and although it sounded familiar I couldn’t quite place it. I propped myself up on the couch and I could hear the sound getting louder. It finally hit me, and I rushed to the window to see if I could see it over head.
Amidst the ambient noise of cars, helicopters, and a busy neighborhood I could clearly make out the roar of a P-51 Mustang’s engine. As you can see in the video clip below the engine has a very distinct sound. Outside of my window I was able to make out a flying “V” of P-51’s, and they made several passes across Old Towne Orange and Chapman University. I smiled and watch them circle over Orange, all the awhile enjoying the rumble of the engines.
I don’t know if the P-51’s still fly over this city on Memorial Day, but I treasure the memory from that summer day ten years ago. I’m proud to live in this country and thankful for the freedoms that so many brave men and women have fought to protect.
This Memorial Day, Allied Modular pauses to remember those who have sacrificed for this great nation, and thank those past and present who have served this country. From all of us at Allied Modular, we hope that you all have a safe and fun filled Memorial Day.
